Your business is located in Wilmington, NC. What made you decide to move to Columbus County?
Well my wife is an art teacher and got a job teaching at Elizabethtown Primary in Bladen County. She grew up in Whiteville and we were married there, so it made sense to us.

What is your favorite part of living in Whiteville?
We live in a much nicer house and neighborhood than we would be able to afford in Wilmington. Our neighborhood is full of big front porches, majestic oaks, magnolias, dogwoods and azaleas. It’s a beautiful site to see in the Spring. We enjoy seeing the walkers, joggers and families going up and down the street. It’s just a warm and friendly community.

You must have quite a commute to work?
The commute really isn’t that bad. My time in the car gives me a chance to plan out my day on my way to work and wind down on my way back home. My office is off of Gordon Rd so I’m able to use the 140 bypass and avoid Wilmington traffic.

Has the recent rise in fuel costs made you regret the move?
Not at all. We knew that I would have to drive a more fuel efficient vehicle when we moved here so we purchased a car that gets 45mpg. The rise in fuel prices still hurts, but our cost of living is still considerably lower than it was in Wilmington.

What do you NOT miss about living in Wilmington?
Always having to fight traffic and avoid accidents every where you go. Our taxes and insurance were higher and our house was smaller yet more expensive. I just couldn’t see myself raising a family there.

What is your favorite restaurant and meal in Columbus County?
Wow, I think that would be a toss up between a Mamma Rita’s Stromboli and an Ivy’s Chimichanga. If you are from out of town though, the first thing you HAVE to try is a hot dog and burger from Ward’s grill. That’s if you are lucky enough to get one before they run out. For breakfast, my wife and I like to walk up the street to Our Place.

What do you like to do in Columbus County?
I love golfing at Land-O-Lakes. That course has to be the best value in Southeastern, NC. It’s a great course. My wife and I have a 7 month old daughter that keeps us really busy. We also enjoy going to church and watching our nieces and nephews play sports.
